New football league kicks off

Crumlin Leisure Centre’s 3G pitch, this week.

Organised by Antrim Borough Council, the league started on Monday and will see eight teams compete over seven weeks for a top prize of £400.

Antrim council’s Anna Boyle, Sport and Physical Activity Development Manager , said they were keen to get the ball rolling.

“The six-a-side league aims to give local footballers the chance to play some competitive football on the new state of the art 3G football pitch at Crumlin Leisure Centre,” she said. “Each team should be made up of amateur players who are 18 years of age and over. Places are limited to 8 teams and allocated on a first come first served basis, so, I would encourage you to sign up as soon as possible.”

Entry fee is £60 per team of six, with an additional £3 per player to be paid each Monday evening.

The new 3g football pitch is on the grounds of the £4.5m commmunity centre due to open in the coming months which has been turned into a multi-activity sports hub.

The council had applied for Grow funding of £250,000 which helped provide much needed community rooms within the designed project.

There are also three new third generation outdoor pitches suitable for soccer, rugby and Gaelic sports on the grounds of the community centre.

As well as new pitches and a third generation all weather pitch the facility will also have a state of the art indoor sports, dance and gym facilities.
