New front in war on thugs

The decision to instigate an independent assessment was prompted by an incident at Seacourt the weekend before last when a mob attacked and injured three police officers. It is also a response to the stated fears of community leaders and politicians that progress in the estate could be set back years by the actions of a few troublemakers.

The council, PSNI and Northern Ireland Housing Executive have all agreed to be bound by the findings of the person or persons appointed to assess the role and responsibility of each agency in dealing with anti-social elements.

In addition, Larne Community Safety Partnership (CSP), acting jointly with and the local district policing partnership (DPP), is to organise a conference for members of the wider Larne community and statutory agencies to address areas of concern in relation to antisocial behaviour and how communities can assist the statutory organisations in overcoming these problems.
