Responding to speculation that the new build in the grounds of Lagan Valley Hospital may have been delayed, a spokesperson for the Trust stressed that the project is still on track.

“The Lisburn Primary and Community Care Centre project has not been delayed,” she told the Star. “Enabling, or site preparation works, are currently in progress.

“The contract for the construction work has not yet been awarded, but the process is well advanced and a preferred bidder has already been appointed.

“The South Eastern Trust anticipates that the new facility will open in autumn 2019.”

Stressing that the new centre is not a capital procurement project, the spokesperson confirmed that the building will be leased by the Trust from the developer, with the option to purchase upon expiry of the lease.

“The annual lease costs have not been finalised as these are subject to conclusion of the procurement process and full business case approval. Furthermore, this would be commercially sensitive information,” she added.

The new facility at the Hillsborough Road site will replace the existing health centre at Linenhall Street.
