New health unit opens in Crumlin

HEALTH Minister Michael McGimpsey has officially opened the first Randox Health Checks Centre in the UK and Ireland - a new service which it is claimed will transform healthcare.

The walk-in centre, based in Crumlin, will allow members of the public to walk in and be checked, via blood/urine samples, for a range of medical conditions.

Over 100 tests are available from a cost of 50, including WellWoman and WellMan checks, a heart health check and sports health check as well as pre-pregnancy and fatigue checks.

Confidential results, provided in a comprehensive report within 48 hours, are then available to be used as the basis for further consideration by healthcare professionals.

The system is based on technologies developed by Randox.

Founder and Managing Director of Randox Laboratories Dr Peter Fitzgerald explained; "This bespoke service will empower individuals to take responsibility for their health, and give them the freedom to choose what they would like to be tested for, and at a time that's convenient to them.

"We're very much promoting the idea that prevention is better than cure," he said. "One-off tests will provide an individual with a comprehensive view of their health at that point in time and annual repeat tests will allow a person to keep an eye on their health patterns, thus more readily spotting any abnormalities."

The Randox Health Checks drop-in centre is at 5-15 Mill Road, Crumlin.
