New home for injured foal

A FOAL that was found in an ill and distressed state by children in Londonderry has made a good recovery and has been found a new home.

On the evening of Sunday, May 9, the children found the foal at Blighs Lane and alerted a passing motorist, who contacted police.

The foal was dehydrated and had jaundice and was taken by police to a local vet. Now, almost three weeks later, the foal is recovering well.

Inspector Yvonne McManus said: "When the foal was found it had wire wrapped around its legs and was unable to walk.

"When police took the foal to the vet, he advised it was in a very poorly condition. Staff at the vet's began to bottle-feed the foal and it was soon able to drink milk for itself and then moved on to bucket feeds.

"The foal now has a new home and it doing well. I think all credit is due to the children who took an interest in the plight of the foal. But for them there might have been a very different outcome."
