The plan could see the construction of 58 new detached and semi-detached dwellings on lands within the existing Readers Park development, which was under the ownership of Holm NI until the company ceased trading last year.

While TransportNI raised no objections to the proposal, more than a dozen conditions were attached to the planning approval, including one relating to the need for improvements to the roads infrastructure in the area.

“No more than 52 of the dwellings hereby permitted shall be occupied until the Ballyclare Relief Road extending from Templepatrick Road across Doagh Road and connecting to Rashee Road has been constructed and is fully operational,” condition number two states.

Planners say the reason for the condition is “to ensure the necessary road infrastructure has been provided to maintain proper, safe and convenient movement of traffic on the public road network.”

Other conditions relate to issues such as landscaping, tree protection and utilities.

The planners’ approval recommendation was proposed by Cllr Jim Bingham, seconded by Cllr Billy Webb and agreed by members.
