New Mayor gets down to business

Newly elected Lisburn and Castlereagh Mayor, Councillor Brian Bloomfield,has already embarked on a full programme of mayoral engagements, the first a wreath-laying in memory of six soldiers who lost their lives in Lisburn in June 1988.

Others have included officiating at the Lisburn Half Marathon.

He said: “It’s my intention to get involved in activities and initiatives in all parts of the council area. I will promote the council to the best of my ability and I am looking forward to meeting well-known acquaintances and new people, groups, sporting clubs and organisations.

“I am keen to inspire support for my Mayoral Charity, details of which I will launch at the full council meeting on June 28 and I hope people will support me in that.”

Proud MBE recipient and former Wallace High School vice-principal (1988-2008) Mr Bloomfield has worked with hundreds of students, parents, educational professionals, voluntary organisations, sporting and statutory bodies and maintained a life-long interest in rugby football.

He was elected to the former Lisburn City Council in May 2011 and re-elected in 2014 to the new Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council.

He has been married to former Special Needs teacher Rosalind since 1973; they have two children, Jonathan and Clare, and one grandson, Conor.
