New Mayor takes over at Causeway council

The new and first appointed Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Michelle Knight-McQuillan, has accepted the chain of office from the Presiding Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor John Finlay, following the merge of the Council areas of Coleraine, Moyle, Ballymoney and Limavady on 1st April 2015.

Speaking on accepting the chain of office at Council’s Coleraine office, Mayor Knight-McQuillan said, “I am proud and honoured to accept the chain of office and represent the residents of Coleraine, Moyle, Limavady and Ballymoney as the Mayor of the new Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

“This is a very significant day for the new Borough area. The merger of the four councils, together with the transfer of functions, creates a significant sub-regional organisation. With a world heritage site and several areas of outstanding natural beauty, it feels like the Causeway Coast and Glens has inherited the family silver.
