New officers elected

The outgoing office bearers said their goodbyes and the new office bearers took up their new roles and responsibilities.

In the men’s club Jim Price stepped aside as Club Captain and Gary Watson took over as Captain for the 2012 season. Ronnie Girvan was appointed as his Vice-Captain.

Also in the men’s club Malachy Turley stepped aside as Club President after an extended period of service and Bobby Cosgrove took over as Club President.

John Truesdale handed the responsibility of Juvenile Convenor over to Walter Ferris.

In the ladies section Patricia Gibson stepped aside after her year as Lady Captain and Heather Patterson took over for the 2012 season.

Edith Watson was appointed as her Vice-Captain.

Another change this season was the appointment of Karen Legrand in the role of Match and Handicap Secretary.

The golfers at Edenmore saw last weekend as similar to what they had experienced over the previous two months.

Wet and cold was the order of the day, with a bitterly cold wind coming in from what certainly felt was the Arctic Circle.

But most golfers are a hardy breed, and it takes a little more than inclement conditions to deter them from their love of the sport.

Two new names came to the fore in the gross winner’s enclosure, in the form of Gary Doherty and David Erwin. Gary, a long standing member of Edenmore, had his best round of the winter, returning a magnificent 35 (level par) for victory on the front nine.

The back nine was won by David Erwin. David has showed much promise in the past and this was eventually realised when returning a gross one under par gross 35 for victory.

The overall winners on the day were no strangers to winning in the past.

Rodger Wilkinson shot an excellent 23 points to win the front nine and Gary Robinson returned after a little sojourn of three weeks to shoot a magnificent 23 points for victory on the back nine.

The section winners were as follows: The front nine section one (0-13) was won by Andy Ellis scoring 22pts to push Mark Reilly into second spot on 21pts.

In section two the (14-18) the winner was David Belshaw winning on countback with 21 pts from William Grant also on 21pts.

The section three (19-22) winner was Russell Beck scoring 20pts and also winning on countback from Ryan Agnew also 20pts. Section four (23-28) winner was Maynard Bickerstaff scoring 22pts from Graham Steel two pts behind on 20pts.

There were equally good scores on the back nine with the winners as follows;

In section one the (0-13) winner was Clive Knox scoring 22pts just a point clear from Tom Crooks on 21pts.

In section two (14-18) the winner was Brian Robinson who scored 23pts to win from match and handicap secretary Tom Chapman on 22pts.

The section three (19-22) winner was Isaac Mulholland scoring 21pts and winning with three clear points from Keith Robinson on 18pts.

In section four (23-28) Jack Brown once again came to the fore on 21pts from Desmond McCarthy on 20pts.

In the Monday seniors Gilbert Sinclair has had a quiet few weeks but this was put to the sword in last Monday’s seniors event.

Gil shot a superb 33pts for victory in the 14 hole competition.

Runner up on the day was in the form of Jack Brown who dinged the last two holes but still returned 31pts.

The Wednesday stableford saw another new name in the frame.

The experienced golfers needed to keep the ball well under the wind which was how Peter Foers managed to shoot an excellent 33pts for a narrow victory over John Stanage close behind on 32 points.
