New parking restrictions in Brownlow Terrace Lurgan

The new rules will prohibit vehicles waiting between 8.00 am and 10.00 am on Monday to Friday inclusive on a length of Brownlow Terrace.

The area had become a bottleneck with drivers parking to collect children from the Model School and drop off or collect commuters at the train station.

Local residents have consistently voiced concern that they are unable to park outside their own homes.

Indeed the issue of parking close to the train station runs as far as Albert St and Victoria St with many commuter parking their cars there all day while they get the train to Belfast or elsewhere.

Welcoming the decision, Sinn Fein Cllr Keith Haughian said: “This came after contact by residents in the area concerned at the level of congestion caused by parked vehicles in the street.

“This issue was first brought to our attention during a canvass of the area in 2015. Since then Sinn Féin have been working in conjunction with residents and relevant agencies in order to get this issue addressed. It has taken a long time to bring this to fruition but it was imperative to help address this issue for people who live along the street and the local commuters trying to access schools and work.

Cllr. Haughian concluded by saying: “I would like to congratulate the local community for the work they have carried out to achieve this result by pushing the road service to complete a survey and then urging them to install the posts - local people have finally got the result they deserve. Sinn Féin will continue working with residents around any issues they have in the area.”
