New path is dug up again

MAJOR excavation work at Castle Lane has raised fears something may be amiss with the public realm works.

Many people thought the new pavement outside the International bar was finished so when fresh digging began on Monday it prompted concerns contractors may have missed something

Timothy Hughes, owner of the International bar, commented: “I don’t know why they’re back here again. Maybe someone dropped a pound.”

He added: “They’re digging very close to my cellar. I warned them not to go too far and sure enough the next thing they’re through into the basement with a Kango hammer.

Mr Hughes said: “I had the place done up about a year and a half ago. Now there’s chips out of the paintwork and concrete everywhere, all over the windows and the woodwork.”

Contractors SIAC were tight lipped over the nature of the work on the pavement outside the International bar.

Project supervisor James Carmody would say only that it was related to the ongoing public realm works and refused to be more specific when pressed on the matter.

When asked when the street furniture would be fitted, the ‘MAIL’ was told it would be fitted when it was ready to be fitted.
