New pilot scheme to help voters

THE Banbridge Electoral Office has launched a six-week pilot scheme to help people to secure their vote in the run-up to the general election.

The office will stay open late one night a week and a new temporary sub-office will also be open in Armagh one afternoon each week.

“With the general election now no more than six months away, the Banbridge Electoral Office is making it even easier for people to secure their vote and make sure that their registration is up-to-date,” said Amanda Mason, area electoral officer. “It is now even more important that everyone eligible to vote should be on the register.

“With extended opening hours in Banbridge and a new facility in Armagh, it has never been easier. Registering for the first time or telling us about a change of name or address is very straightforward and only takes a few minutes.”

From January 14 until February 18, the area office at 52 Bridge Street, Banbridge, will stay open until 7.30pm every Thursday night and during the same period a sub-office will be open in the Viking Room, St Patrick’s Trian, 40 English Street, Armagh, from 12.30pm until 4.30pm on Thursday afternoons.

Staff at both offices will be able to provide advice and assistance on the full range of services. Anyone applying for an electoral identity card can have their photograph taken free of charge at either office.
