According to documents submitted in support of the application: “Since then the building has remained closed and has fallen into disrepair, becoming a large unsightly landmark in Springtown.”

The applicants claim the removal of the chimney and other elements will result in a building with less of an industrial appearance and will be more in keeping with the surrounding built environment.

A variety of plans to bring the Springtown plant’s sister site in Drumahoe back into use have sofar provedunsucessful.
