New principal for Larne High School

Dr Stephen Reid, who has been described as a Larne man '˜through and through' has been appointed principal of the town's high school.

He took up his post on November 1 following the retirement of Mr John Armstrong who served the school and local community with dedication for the past 38 years as teacher, Vice Principal and for the last ten years Principal of the school.

Dr Reid has over twenty years’ experience working in the post-primary sector. He taught Modern Languages in Belfast until his appointment as Vice Principal to Larne Grammar School in 2010.

He is a past pupil of Antiville Primary School and Larne Grammar School, and is extremely proud of what education in Larne has given to him. Dr Reid sees his new role in Larne High School as an opportunity to give something back to the local community that gave him a firm foundation for his own career.

In his first few days in post Dr Reid has said that his priorities for the school are to maintain the high quality education delivered by the school in terms of both Learning and Teaching and the strong Pastoral Care to benefit each individual pupil and allow them to reach their full potential.

He said: “At Larne High School we are extremely proud of our academic achievements and the challenge to me as Principal and to all members of our school community is to maintain the excellent results achieved by the pupils at all levels.”

He has also been impressed by the commitment and dedication of the whole staff to maintaining the high standards achieved at GCSE and A Level in recent years.
