New Rector and Dean for Dromore Cathedral is welcomed

The Reverend Bryan Kerr has become both rector of Dromore Cathedral and dean of Dromore

He was instituted as rector by Bishop Harold Miller and installed as dean by the Chancellor, Revd Canon Robert Howard at a service in the Cathedral on Wednesday August 6.

At the service the Rt Revd Ferran Glenfield, Bishop of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh, with whom Bryan was a student reader in Kill O’ The Grange, gave the address.

Bryan Kerr has been rector of Lisbellaw for eight and half years and has served a total of 18 years in the Diocese of Clogher.

He was ordained in 1996 to serve as curate assistant in St Macartin’s Cathedral, Enniskillen and then took up position as Rector of the Garrison Group of Parishes until 2005. Since 2012 he has been a Canon of Clogher Cathedral.

He is married to Shirley, a primary school teacher and they have two daughters, Hannah aged seven and Rachel aged five.

A former pupil of Omagh Academy, he studied Theology at Queen’s University, Belfast and Trinity College, Dublin before ordination.

In addition to his parochial duties, Bryan has been Rural Dean of Kilskeery and an Honorary Secretary of Clogher Diocesan Synod.

He is a member of the RCB and of General Synod, serving also on the Standing Committee.

He enjoys reading, football and travel in his spare time.

He has taken a keen interest in Christian mission in Serbia, travelling there a number of times with Crosslinks.

UUP Councillor Olive Mercer commented, “Bryan has been chosen to minister to and lead the parish of Dromore Cathedral. I extend a warm welcome to him and pray that God’s richest’s blessings are with him and his family at all times”.

Speaking of his forthcoming ministry in Dromore Cathedral Bryan said, “We’ve enjoyed a really warm welcome in Dromore. We’re very much looking forward to getting to know the people here and ministering among them.”
