The Rathcoole community facility - home to organisations such as the Citizens Advice Bureau and North City Training - was attacked on several occasions earlier this year, leaving the building badly damaged.

Rathcoole Churches Community Group, which runs the centre, asked the council for financial assistance towards the cost of improved security measures.

At their October meeting, committee members agreed that the council pay £3,190 plus VAT to cover the cost of CCTV cameras.

It’s thought that Rathcoole Churches Community Group will pay for monitoring and maintenance of the CCTV system.

The security improvements at the Rathmullan Drive facility will also include new fencing, which is expected to cost RCCG more than £14,000.

Several councillors, including John Scott and Noreen McClelland, said they hoped the new measures would help alleviate concerns about the security of the premises and the staff who work there.
