New session begins for Drumbeg group

Drumbeg Women’s Institute President Rosiland Bloomfield recently welcomed everyone to the first meeting of the new session and introduced guest speaker Jo-Anne Crossley.

Jo-Anne described her experiences of the Camino De Santiago pilgrimage through Spain - 120 kilometres on foot in five days.

There followed supper and business matters.A spokesperson said: “We were pleased to welcome Aldyth Trotter, who was proposed and seconded as a new member, and Laurie King was a visitor for the evening.

“Founder member Hazel Ervine was presented with a beautiful plant in recognition of her 60th wedding anniversary and she recalled happy early memories of meeting her husband Norman. Agnes Donnell and Margaret Clegg were presented with Honorary member certificates.

“Plans were discussed for a Baby Shower display at the City of Belfast Flower and Vegetable Show and members were encouraged to support ‘Pennies for Friendship’, which helps improve women’s circumstances.”

Barbara Huss won the competition, with Eva McAdam second, Margaret Jordan and Margaret Hegarty joint third.

The spokesperson added: “We meet on the third Thursday of every month in Drumbeg Orange Hall at 7.45pm . We enjoy walking together on Wednesday mornings and have frequent outings to the theatre and other cultural events. You will be made to feel most welcome.”
