New social housingin Sunnylands estate

The sheltered development constructed by Choice Housing Association is located at Sunnylands Grove.

It consists of 12 two-bedroom apartments and will house residents over the age of 55 years.

Commenting on the facility, Councillor Noel Jordan said: “I was delighted to attend the official opening of the new sheltered development at Sunnylands Grove in Carrickfergus.

“This new complex which consists of 12 two-bedroom energy efficient apartments will enable people over the age of 55 to live independently and safely in modern homes.

“This is a very welcome development in the Sunnylands area, which is close to all amenities, being within walking distance of local shops as well as the town centre.

“The lack of social and affordable housing is a major issue in the Carrick area and it would be great to see more of these initiatives being developed throughout the town and the borough to help alleviate the increasing number of people and families on the housing waiting lists, people desperate for somewhere to live”

The Sunnylands Grove property was officially opening by chair of Choice, Hazel Bell and Ian Snowden, director of Housing Policy and Performance at the Department for Communities.

The new homes were supported by an investment of £714,192 from the Department for Communities with additional private finance provided by the housing association.

The apartments will enable older people to live independently and privately.
