New street lighting scheme welcomed

DUP ELECTION hopeful and councillor, Gary Middleton, has welcomes the new lighting scheme on Duncastle Road in Newbuildings.

The work has just been completed in the past week by the DoE Roads Service, and stretches the length of Duncastle Road, one of the main routes in the village bordered on both sides by housing, shops and church buildings.

“There were concerns from members of the public and residents who wanted to use the road late at night and in the winter months to get to the local shops and go to church, but were a little apprehensive about using the road particularly during the dark winter months. The DUP has been campaigning for remedial work on Duncastle Road for a number of years and we are very pleased to see this work finally being completed, not least because of the high number of elderly in the this area, but also because there is an increase in the number of younger residents out walking pets or keeping fit, and the lighting was less than adequate for their neeeds,” Mr Middleton said.

“The DUP will continue to represent the rural community here in Newbuildings. I am keen to hear from any resident who feels their surroundings are not up to scratch, and I will undertake to raise these issues both locally and nationally on their behalf,” he said.
