The new Craigavon Community Greenway toucan crossing was activated today (Monday).

The crossing has been placed on a busy stretch of road that is close to both primary and secondary schools and is part of the Greenway project, linking Lurgan and Portadown Train Station by cycle route.

The crossing has been placed here to help keep pedestrians and motorists safe on a busy road.

Local police said: “We are asking motorists to be aware of the crossing and also asking cyclists and pedestrians to use this crossing when they want to get across the road.”

Toucan crossings are similar to pelican crossings, but there is no flashing amber phase; the light sequence for traffic at these three crossings is the same as at traffic lights. Cyclists can also legally use the crossing.
