New Town Development Manager appointed

BLACKPOOL native, Amanda Bennett has been given the task of planning the future improvements of Ballymena town centre.

Her appointment to the role was announced this week by the newly formed company Ballymena Town Centre Development Ltd (BTCD

The new company, which is receiving substantial funding from Ballymena Borough Council and the private sector, is a partnership of the business community, public representatives and statutory authority advisors.

Amanda, who has been given the title Town Development Manager will concenrate on the development and implementation of a strategy for the next three years for the improvement of Ballymena town centre.

The company stated: “Amanda brings extensive business development experience to the position, as well as a strong track record in urban strategy development and Business Improvement District (BID’s) management. Her background gives her an excellent understanding of the issues involved in developing and implementing broad-based town centre initiatives.

Originally from Blackpool, Amanda was a key driver of the seaside resort’s Strategic Partnership for many years, working with the Public, Private and Voluntary and Community Sectors.

During Amanda’s time at Blackpool, the Strategic Partnership worked to develop a Business Improvement District, deliver £100m of regeneration over 5 years which saw huge improvements in the town centre and tourist districts of the town and developed a clearly defined, open and transparent strategy which mapped out aspirations for the town for 10 years.

Announcing the appointment, Mrs Anne Donaghy, current chair of the Board of BTCDL, said “We are very pleased that Amanda has decided to join us. She brings highly relevant experience and qualities to the role, and we look forward to the positive contribution she will make to an already successful town. It is vital that we realise the tremendous potential in our town centre for all its users, and this appointment is key to delivering our vision for Ballymena town centre.”

Amanda said: “I am delighted to take up this post. The Ballymena Town Centre Development Company has a vital role to play in fulfilling the aspirations of the Ballymena Masterplan and to secure Ballymena as one of the first Business Improvement Districts in Northern Ireland.

“This is an exciting time for Ballymena as the commitment of the local council and business leaders is clearly demonstrated by the development of this new company. I am certain that we can work together to ensure Ballymena realises its natural role as a prosperous location for business and investment, and as a focal point for vibrant, inclusive communities.”

She added: “I look forward to meeting local businesses and to working with the Company’s Board to develop the first Ballymena Town Centre Development Company three year strategy.”
