New William Kings film is available now

The William Kings have launched a new full length film documenting the rich history of the Fountain institution.

‘The Fountain and the Band of Brothers’ was officially launched during what proved to be yet another hugely successful Maiden City festival.

The documentary film, which was created during the Londonderry United Kingdom City of Culture year to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the band was part funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

The film was shot over the entire year and includes the thoughts of founder members as well as newer members and people who have been associated with the band and the Fountain over 40 years.

Derek Moore, a band member and coordinator of the Londonderry Bands Forum, explained: “Difficult subjects concerning the murder of Bobby Stott and the deaths of other band members as well as problems with the city council, parades commission and the loyal orders are all explored in an entertaining and pragmatic way.

“Footage of the original 1973 band marching up to the fantastic Walled City Tattoo performances are interlinked with various events in the bands history during one of the most difficult times in Northern Ireland.”

Mr Moore said the film gives a great insight into the interior life of a band.

“The film also explores the complex relationships between members and the sense of family that being in a band creates. Not everyone will be happy with what they hear in the film and some personalities and events are only touched on, but all who have seen finished film agree that this is a very significant account of the unique world of bands and what it means to be part of one of the best examples of them.”
