‘New woman’ Phyllis set to open her own slimming class

Phyllis Sneddon, who has lost six stone since joining Slimming World two years ago, says she can’t wait to get started.

The married mother-of-two is one of six new Slimming World consultants who are set to take up their posts after a recruitment campaign in the local area.

Phyllis will run a new class in Brownstown Community Centre every Thursday. It will begin on New Year’s Eve at 11.30am and every Thursday thereafter at 7.30pm.

The civil servant can’t remember a time when she wasn’t overweight. She was prompted to join Slimming World after she attended a lifestyle and physical activity assessment with work only to be told she wouldn’t be allowed to complete a gentle exercise test because of high blood pressure.

There was also a history of heart problems in her family, with her father passing away when she was 12 after a long period of ill-health and her older brother suffering a heart attack a few years ago.

She said, “My brother-in-law had started going to Slimming World about three months before me and I saw the difference in him. I had also seen the photos from our family holiday and I decided to give it a go.

“I feel like a new person, both physically and mentally. My husband and children can see the difference in me, and I can’t wait to have my first target member.”

Other groups starting shortly are The Courthouse, Markethill, run by Pamela Hamilton, at 9.30, 11.30, 5.30 and 7.30 every Thursday from the new year.

Seana Carroll, from Portadown, will relaunch the Wednesday group at St Anthony’s in Craigavon at 9.30 5.30 and 7.30 while there are also two classes in Armagh City Hotel.
