New writers urged to join group

The positivity enjoyed by Larne Writers’ Group throughout 2014 is continuing this year.

A number of new faces and writers has already attended the new season’s Saturday sessions.

The group supported the reading by visiting author Tara West, which was held in Larne Library recently.

Meetings continue to be convened on the first and third Saturday of each month at Larne Library, but from this Saturday onwards, there will be a change in times.

Group member and author of the recently published ‘Olympians’ Leif Bodnarchuk said; “The LWG is a fluid group of committed writers with similar goals. However, with busy weekend schedules, whether family or other distractions, it is important that we as a group, move in concert with our growing membership’s needs. That is why, after some in-depth discussion, we have decided to adjust our session times.

“From this Saturday onwards, we will meet between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm.”

Fellow LWG member Kerry Campbell added: “These are exciting times for the Larne Writers’ Group. It seems that every week now, the Larne Times features another published local author. We would very much like to draw these writers into our group.

“Existing LWG members are continuing to publish - generally via self publishing routes such Lulu, CreateSpace, Kindle etcetera. Others are knocking on the traditional publishing doors armed with completed novels screen plays and poetry collections. This year already LWG has witnessed two publications from the membership, the latest is titled ‘Four Themes’ a collection of poetry from LWG stalwart, Gary Ferguson. A review of Gary’s collection will be published in the Larne Times shortly.

“While ultimately the longevity and success of Larne Writers’ Group will be aligned with the success of its membership, the fundamental aim of the collective, the glue which binds its participants together, is in reaching out into the community to encourage literary talent up to the surface. LWG is a supporter of arts in the community.

“Perhaps, as you read this, you are working, or struggling though a short story, poem or full manuscript. Why not extract yourself from the loneliness of the keyboard and drop by this Saturday. You can also follow the group on Facebook. For further information call; 0780 9691585.”
