“It is a real pity that the land that could be utilised is left to wreck and ruin. The community has told me it would be lovely to see this land developed into allotments or a garden for the older people in the area. If the site could just be left in such a state that members of the community could go in and develop it themselves that would be ideally what we want. As it stands, I would be frightened of somebody being hurt if they went onto the site given the amount of rubbish and dumped waste. The site is derelict and just too risky.

“A portable cabin is there which has been burned and one of it’s sides is leaning against the fence, so even to be outside that area of the fence would not be that save because of the weight of the cabin leaning on the fence,” she said.

“I have a lot of volunteers already asking what is happening in the area and wanting to be involved. The positivity is starting to happen. I had a meeting on Wednesday and the room in the youth club was packed with people interested in seeing the area rejuvenated. It is all really positive and people are just so happy to see things starting to happen and the people here have already started a parent and toddler group on their own. This is going to be a good year.”
