CARNLOUGH - President Anna May Wharry welcomed members to the February meeting and said she appreciated the turnout in spite of such cold weather.

After the fire drill regulations were read and business dealt with, Anna May congratulated Peggy Black on winning the art competition, her subject being An Irish Scene.

The meeting took the form of members’ night and a very healthy, hot meal was prepared and served, followed by a variety of mouth-watering desserts.

Light entertainment was provided in the form of poems, a quiz and some games. The competition was for a butter dish.

BALLYCARRY - For visitor's night in March, Arlene Thompson from Sainsbury's Try Team gave a fabulous cookery demonstration.

Her easy-going personality, down-to-earth good humour as well as her tasty food samples were enjoyed by all.

The competition for a vegetable food animal, which tested everyone’s imagination, was won by Leta Marsden, with Isobel Nelson and Maybeth McQuitty coming close behind.

The magazine prize went to Anna Erskine.

MAGHERAMORNE - Those attending the March meeting enjoyed a visit by Robert Knox and other colleagues from Cobwebs antique shop who brought a selection of various items.

It proved a very informative evening and members learned a few tips on what to look for if buying antiques.

The competition was won by Nathaleen Liddle. Mrs Ida Woodside was congratulated on winning the area bowling competition.

A lovely supper was served by Anne McCandless and Dianne Murray.

Meanwhile in February, members and friends attended the annual dinner at the Curran Court Hotel.

President Isabel Johnston welcomed everyone and it turned out to be a most enjoyable evening, with an excellent meal and good company. Adding to the occasion were some table quizzes and a ballot. The first prize winner was Sally Burns.

The January meeting was cancelled as a result of the wintry weather.
