Speaker for the evening was Mr Raymond King, who gave a very interesting talk and DVD presentation of his journey to Antarctica. Although shipwrecked and bobbing around in lifeboats on horrendous seas, what could have been a tragedy ended well with no one lost or injured.

Mr King accepted a cheque for Oxfam, the charity he has supported for many years.

After supper Linda Dodds, Ballynure, gave the vote of thanks on behalf of visitors.

A short business meeting brought a most enjoyable evening to a close.

CAIRNCASTLE :

A large number of members were welcomed to the May meeting when Anne-Marie McGrath from McFarlane’s Chemist spoke on ‘from the inside out’.

She encouraged members to eat sensibly, drink lots of water and supplement their diets from the range of effective products on the market if further help was required. She was thanked by Mary Rainey.

Congratulations were extended to members who were successful at the recent Inver Area competitions. Annette Linton was awarded with her Gold Spinning Wheel.

Anita Maxwell was presented with the Quoile tropy for her winning cover photograph, used on the June, 2011 Ulster Countrywoman.

The competition for a beauty hint for the modern woman” was won by Daphne Hassin, with Leona McClelland second and Dorothy Marshall third.Stephanie Robinson won the ballot.

Members were reminded of their outing to Greenmount on June 9.
