Newtownabbey man appointed chair of health trust

Newtownabbey man Bob McCann has been appointed as non-executive chair of the Northern Health and Social Care Trust.

The appointment was announced by Health Minister Edwin Poots on Monday.

Mr McCann has held senior management positions in both public and private sectors and chaired audit committees in a number of organisations.

Prior to his appointment as non-executive chair of the Northern Trust, he was a serving non-executive director of the Trust and has been the acting non-executive chair for the past year.

Mr McCann has demonstrated a “clear understanding of strategic issues” and displayed a “very principled approach to decision making”. It is also expected that he will bring his “strong interpersonal skills” to his new role. He will hold the post for four years.

He is also non-executive director and chair of the Audit Committee with the Agri-Food and Bio Science Institute (AFBI) and non-executive director of Warrenpoint Harbour Authority.
