Newtownabbey members receivecertificates after project success

The University of Ulster is committed to various widening access activities and the Faculty of Computing and Engineering is involved in a number of these outreach events.

The project involved 16 teenagers from the 16th Newtownabbey Boys’ Brigade, who were enrolled onto a short course that was both hosted and accredited by the University of Ulster, from February until May.

The course involved an introduction to digital imaging which allowed the boys to study various computing topics such as binary, image compression, photo editing and web design to name but a few. These topics were presented using modern teaching tools and interactive quizzes. All those who passed the module received a University of Ulster certificate at an award ceremony that was held on May 13.

With an excellent turn out, the boys and their parents received talks about the opportunities in the computing industry and a review of the course from Dr Paul Hanna, head of School - Computing and Mathematics and course tutor, Dr. Raymond Bond and Dr. Nicola Arye, computing course director was there to present the certificates.
