Mr Sproule, formerly Community Services Manager with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, is looking forward to reaching out to the community of Newtownabbey and working with local organisations to improve the lives of others.

Speaking at the club’s recent president’s dinner at Corr’s Corner Hotel, he commented: “I am really thrilled to be taking on this role for the next year. It will involve a lot of hard work but will be worth it.

“I and the club plan to continue our involvement in the Rotary International campaign ‘End Polio Now’ to eradicate polio and the ‘Bikes 4 Africa’ project organising the collection and storage of bikes until transfer for refurbishing and delivery to African schools. Support will also continue for the ShelterBox charity, which provides shelter boxes, tools, tents and survival equipment when there is an international emergency such as the recent earthquake in Nepal.

“Rotary is an active group and I am appealing for anyone who is keen to help to get in touch with us.”

The Rotary Club of Newtownabbey, which meets at Corr’s Corner Hotel, also works with a number of local organisations on health, education, community, business and charity projects.

Encouraging more people to get involved with Rotary, Mr Sproule added: “You will have fun and make new friends, build business contacts and try things you would never normally have thought of doing. Rotary really is an organisation that can open doors.”
