Newtownabbey student donates a foot and a half of hair to kids' cancer charity

Larne girl Chloe Brownlee, 18, has been growing her hair since the age of 13 and last weekend had 20 inches cut off to make wigs for kids suffering from cancer.

In addition, Larne YMCA junior leader Chloe raised over £500 for the local YMCA and for local boy Ricky Morrow, who suffers from cerebral palsy, epilepsy and learning difficulties.

“Chloe is studying for a level 2 in child care at Newtownabbey Tech and she is on a placement at Roddensvale, where Ricky goes to school,” her proud mum Tracy told the Times.

“Ricky is undergoing intensive therapy to help him walk and Chloe wanted to do something to benefit other people.

“She is so compassionate and humble, she said it was only hair and she was glad to be doing it.”

Tracy says Chloe’s donation of hair to the Little Princess Trust is particularly poignant as her stepbrother Kaylan Walker suffered from childhood kidney cancer.

“Kaylan had Wilm’s tumour when he was two and although he didn’t get a wig at that time it did make Chloe want to do something,” she explained.

“Chloe is very selfless and independent and I couldn’t be prouder of her.

“We want to thank everyone who donated for their generosity.”
