Next step in Promenade regeneration

Causeway Coast and Glens Council has agreed to take the next step in the Portstewart Environmental Improvement Scheme.

Members of the Leisure and Development Committee met on Tuesday and voted to proceed with Stage Three of the scheme.

The scheme is aiming to give a facelift to the resort in areas such as the Prom which has been described as a “patchwork of materials” and “not aesthetically pleasing”.

Council approached DSD for 50/50 match funding for the scheme.

Alan Jeffers updated members on Tuesday that a lot of work has already been done to the Prom but added that the greatest risk to the work was bad weather.

Members agreed to move to the next stage which is to bring back a tender report for further work.

Cllr Maura Hickey proposed accepting the officer’s recommendation, saying that all the Skerries councillors in the legacy Coleraine Council had been supportive of the project irrespective of parties.
