NI exams success for the High School

STAFF and pupils at Coleraine High School were delighted to learn this week that no fewer than six of their pupils have been ranked in the top three in Northern Ireland in their respective CCEA Board GCSE and GCE examinations.

English Literature enjoyed huge success with Catherine Maguire, last year’s Deputy Head Girl, and fellow pupil Sarah McDowell being placed a superb second and third respectively at GCE level.

Both Catherine and Sarah are now studying at Cambridge University where Catherine is reading Modern and Medieval Languages and Sarah is reading Law.

Sarah also continued the History Department’s ongoing tradition of success at GCE level by being placed an excellent joint third in what is a very competitive area.

The Modern Foreign Languages Department had unprecedented GCE success across its three subject areas. Twins Jazmin and Leticia Taeubert could not be separated and were consequently placed joint third in German! In addition Jazmin achieved an outstanding first in Northern Ireland in Spanish whilst Catherine Maguire continued her success with an exceptional third place in French.

A similar trend was witnessed at GCSE level in Chemistry with Leanne Lyons gaining an excellent third place in this subject. Leanne also gained the exceptional achievement of A* grades in all eleven subjects undertaken at GCSE.

Headmistress, Mrs Anne Bell, was naturally very proud of all the girls and personally congratulated them on their high achievements. She also paid tribute to the staff of the school, both for their hard work and for providing an environment where the girls can excel academically and achieve their maximum potential.
