NI Water makes appeal for public’s help in ending vandalism to reservoir

NI Water has appealed for the public’s help to stop vandalism at one of its sites in Ballyclare.

Vandals have caused minor damage to doors, external lights and the generator at the Rashee service reservoir in the town.

NI Water has reported the incident to police and is carrying our repairs at the site. It has stressed that there is no risk to the safety of the town’s water supply.

Ivan Graham, NI Water site manager, said: “We are disappointed at this attack on a water supply facility in Ballyclare, but I would reiterate that there is no threat to water supplies in the Ballyclare area.

“NI Water will continue to provide the highest quality drinking water in the history of Northern Ireland.

“I would ask the public to help us protect our resources and inform the police immediately they see or become aware of suspicious activity around any of our sites. “Not only is such activity damaging to our resources, it is also potentially dangerous, with machinery and deep water an obvious threat.

“By informing the PSNI and NI Water of suspicious or criminal activity at our sites, we can ensure the safety of the water supply for everyone.”
