NI Water puts off plan to shut road

NI Water has confirmed that plans to close the Carntall Road this month for two weeks during scheduled works have been postponed.

The essential mains upgrade work will now be carried out early next year.

Yellow information signs had been erected on the road, which links the A8 Larne Road and the Doagh Road, to let motorists know about the closure. But this week an NI Water spokesman said the signs would now be taken down.

“Due to the work being carried out next year, the road will not be closed and the information signs will be removed,” he commented.

“As part of NI Water’s ongoing Water Mains Improvement Programme across Northern Ireland, work is due to be carried out in February 2014 in the Carntall Road area.

“This project will dramatically improve the quality, reliability and security of the water supply, while also reducing leakage and improving pressure in the area.

“NI Water and our contractor Farrans Construction will continue to work in cooperation with Roads Service and will keep the public updated about this essential improvement work.”
