Nicholson visits new Causeway Centre

ON Friday March 30, Ulster Unionist MEP Jim Nicholson visited the Giants Causeway Visitors’ Centre alongside Robin Swann MLA and local Moyle councillors.

The delegation was met by Graham Thompson, Project Director of the Giant’s Causeway, and they were given a tour of the new site.

Speaking after the visit, Mr Nicholson said: “I was so pleased to have been given the opportunity to visit the site of the new visitors’ centre. Around a third of funding for this came from the EU Sustainable Competitiveness Programme so it is great to see the funding which I supported being used in practice, in a way which will massively benefit tourism in the area.

“I led a delegation of MEP’s from the ECR Group to the Causeway last September and they were all massively impressed by the area. Since, many of them have said that they intend on coming back to Northern Ireland this summer and this new visitor’s centre will enhance their experience even further.”

Ulster Unionist Culture Spokesperson and local MLA Robin Swann, said: “I have been working closely with our councillors in the area on this site and am delighted with the work to date. This facility will attract even more tourists and visitors to the North Coast; providing a truly informative and interactive experience concerning the many myths, legends and history of the Causeway. I am delighted to see that Europe, as well as our local Assembly and the National Trust are so committed to highlighting that Northern Ireland is now officially open for business as a world class tourist destination.”
