Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) received reports of bogus callers claiming to be from NIE and its contractors calling at a home in the area.

NIE has reminded householders that every NIE staff member, and contractors working for NIE, carry an official identification pass which customers should ask to see. The pass has the carrier’s photograph on it.

Shirley Devlin, NIE Customer Relations Manager for the area, said: “We take reports of anyone impersonating NIE staff very seriously. If someone calls to your door saying they are from NIE, please ask to see their ID pass. Legitimate NIE employees and contractors will be only too happy to show you their identification.

“If you are still unsure, please feel free to call NIE on 03457 643 643 and we will confirm whether or not NIE employees are working in your area. Alternatively you could contact the PSNI’s Quick Check number on 0800 013 22 90.”
