NIFRS plays part in Climate Week

Climate Week is designed to inspire action on climate change and NIFRS recognises the need to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute positively to the environment.

NIFRS employees will receive regular communication throughout the week and each day will focus on real, practical energy saving tips that can be adopted by every member of staff, in their every day procedures to help save energy and reduce carbon emissions. The link between climate change and carbon emissions is well documented.

As a Fire & Rescue Service, NIFRS responds to emergency incidents related to extreme weather conditions, including widespread flooding and wildland fires.

Firefighters witness the impact this has on the public and the natural environment. As a public service, NIFRS believes in leading by example and doing what it can to reduce environmental impact.

Good environmental performance also makes good business sense. In the challenging economic climate that all public bodies find themselves in, it has never been more important to look at ways of reducing carbon emissions so that in the long run NIFRS can deliver real and lasting financial savings as well as contribute to the betterment of the environment.

NIFRS employees will be asked to remember even the smallest things like turning out lights, switching off PCs, photocopiers and printers at the end of the day, car sharing to meetings, etc, which will eventually accumulate to make a difference to reduce NIFRS carbon footprint and contribute positively to its environment.
