Nigel and Chris raise funds for Lapland Trust

TWO local men are hoping to raise a four figure sum so that they can send two children and their parents to the trip of a lifetime in Lapland this Christmas.

Noel Laverty and Chris McElreavey have already embarked on a fund-raising programme which has seen them hold a fishing competition at Dunseverick last month proving not only a good day out, but a worthwhile result at the end.

The event raised 331 which was excellent, but still falls short of the 1500 to 1600 needed to send two terminally ill children on the Lapland trip.

Noel and Chris are running a second fishing competition at Castlerock beach on September 26 starting at 10 a.m. and finishing around 3 p.m. If they do as good as last time there will be no complaints.

A sponsored walk is also taking place in October which Noel and Chris hope will be well supported.

So far, they have been greatly encouraged by the support from the public and some local businesses including Josie McLaughlin of the Tackle Shop in Portballintrae for giving a fishing rod and Fast Pak in Ballymoney who donated a barbecue.

Anyone who would like to donate to the fund should contact the Mill Tea Room in Dervock where all donations will be gratefully accepted. Details of the fishing competition as well as the sponsored walk will also be available.

The first fishing competition at Dunseverick was won by local man, Glenn Irvine.
