'Niggardly text message'

FROM: Joe Corrigan, Principal of Lismore Comprehensive

I was very disappointed to read the anonymous and niggardly text message in last week's paper complaining about Eire Og GAA Club in Craigavon charging 10 for their summer coaching week for young children in the area.

My grandson is just one of many, many children who benefited from a full week's coaching, with the opportunity to play many games of football with their peers.

These activities are all organised and delivered by a very dedicated group of volunteers who give generously and repeatedly of their time and talent in order to help other people's children develop and enjoy themselves in a safe and creative environment.

The 'goodie bag' that the young children received at the end of the course, which included a sportsbag and ball, was in itself worth more than the 10 fee for the week. The week's summer scheme was fantastic value for money, and as a grandparent and the Principal of the local comprehensive school which receives great support from Eire Og, I want to place on record my appreciation of all the good work they do, and express my admiration for the commitment and dedication shown by Eire Og's coaches and administrators to the young people of our area.

The GAA ethos of voluntary service is alive and well in Craigavon. I wonder how many hours voluntary commitment each week your complainant gives to the club.
