Night at lough for stargazers

CALLING all astronomy fans across the Borough - Join the Irish Astronomical Association for a spectacular evening of stargazing and culinary delights at the Lough Neagh Discovery Centre on Friday, March 30.

Organised by Craigavon Borough Council in partnership with the Irish Astronomical Association, the event will kick off at 6.30pm with an out of this world two course meal in Loughside Café. Tantalise your taste buds before checking out magnificent star shows in a mobile planetarium from 7.30pm followed by celestial views of the first quarter moon, brilliant Venus (“the Evening Star”), and fascinating Jupiter with its four large Galilean moons! (This will be weather dependent).

There will also be an exhibition of the best photos taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, ground-based observatories and IAA members and a fascinating display of telescopes, binoculars and amazing meteorites.

Andy Griggs, Craigavon Borough Council’s Education, Events & Activities Officer, said: “This event is a fantastic opportunity to dine with the stars and find out more about the wonderful night sky and the stars which shine bright in outer space. Experts will be on hand throughout the evening to answer everything you ever wanted to know about astronomy.”

Booking is essential for this event. Cost is £5 entry for stargazing experience only (starting at 7.30pm) or £15 for the stargazing experience and a two course meal (starting at 6.30pm in Loughside Café).
