Night in memoryof brave Rebecca

Rebecca Haughey, a pupil at St Catherine’s College in Armagh, lost her fight with the disease in September.

Her friends - past and present pupils of the school - have organised the event at the Auction Rooms, Moy, tomorrow night (Friday, November 11).

Aine McGivern, a classmate of Rebecca’s, said, “Rebecca’s 18th birthday was on March 22 and she was hoping to have a fundraiser for CLIC Sargent, as she spoke highly of them, but unfortunately Rebecca wasn’t well enough and it never happened.”

“We know it was something she wanted to do. She was such an inspiration, always upbeat and lively, and we all really miss her.

“Her distinctive laugh is something I will never forget, and I’m sure many others can say the same. Her bubbly personality would have cheered anyone up when they were down, and she never failed to make us laugh or smile.”

The other girls involved in organising the night are Bronagh Black, Ellen Donnelly, Meabh McElmeel, Meabh Rafferty, Megan McArdle, Niamh McCreanor, Micheala Maginess, Rayna Gillespie, Rachael Oliver and Viktorija Kubiliute.

The event will take place from 9-late, and will include pizza, cocktails and a raffle along with other promotions.

There is a £5 donation on the door and all proceeds will go to CLIC Sargent.

Rebecca discovered in July that her cancer was terminal and in a Facebook post spoke of her determination “to beat this ruddy cancer”.

The fun-loving Derrymacash girl, who loved drama and was a gifted actress, received a posthumous award at the St Catherine’s prizegiving in recognition of her strength of character, tenacity and resolve in the face of adversity.
