Night of nostalgia at Ballymoney United F.C.

IT was a night when the talk was of days gone by and of how a football club had enjoyed the highs and lows.

Many of the ‘old hands’ turned up at Ballymoney United’s social club to enjoy the company of former and present players and management and to generally catch up on each others’ lives.

The reminiscences however were mainly about football and a copious display of pictures from days gone by provided all the nostalgia required to make this a special evening.

Ballymoney United chairman, Noel Lamont, welcomed the likes of Peter Tweed, Colin McComb, Albert McClenaghan, Jackie McAfee, Frankie McDonald, Simon Smyth and Monty McKinney to name but a few and for former chairman, Ollie Muldoon, the evening saw him formally unveil a picture of the highly successful 1980-1981 team that swept all before them when they competed in the Intermediate League.

It was down to players such as John Donnell, Billy Atkinson, Derek McComb and Harry Agnew that helped seal the club’s place in the history books and to provide the present set-up with the incentive needed to emulate past achievements.

In a short speech, Mr. Muldoon said he was “absolutely delighted” to see so many people who use to play for the club present.

Mr. Muldoon was presented with a framed picture of the team from more than 20 years ago.

A buffet was served to all the guests.
