NIHE staff walk to 'benefit' Marie Curie Cancer Care

EIGHTEEN staff from the Housing Executive's Housing Benefit Unit in Twickenham House, joined by a number of their colleagues in the North East Area, have taken part in a sponsored walk in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care, raising £1,000 for the charity.

The walk at the Ecos Centre was organized by Jacqueline Crawford, Housing Officer in the Unit.

Jacqueline said: “This is the fourth consecutive year that Housing Executive staff have participated in this sponsored walk, raising over 3,500 in previous years, and a further 1,000 for this year’s walk.

“This event is one of the highlights of our fundraising year. It is great to get the support from colleagues and friends again this year, at a time when people are facing the realities of the ‘credit crunch’”.

Since establishing the Housing Benefit Unit for the North East Area in Twickenham House in October 2008, staff have been enthusiastic about fundraising for charity.

In addition to the sponsored walk, the various sections within the Unit regularly organize events and as a result have donated more than 1,600 to local charities.

“Fundraising activities are an important part of the Housing Executive’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme and we are pleased that we are playing our part in helping local charities continue with their vital work in the community,” said Jacqueline.
