NIHE to review carbon monoxide detector policy

THE Housing Executive has announced it is to review its policy on the installation of carbon monoxide detectors - a move which has been welcomed by East Antrim MLA Alastair Ross.

During a debate in Stormont, Mr Ross highlighted the deaths of two Newtownabbey teenagers from carbon monoxide poisoning over the summer, and called for NIHE to consider installing detectors in some of their 90,000 homes across the province.

He added: “There are tens of thousands of homes in Northern Ireland in public sector ownership, and the NIHE could look at installing devices in some of their stock. The Housing Executive is the biggest single landlord in Northern Ireland, and I am encouraged that the Minister for Social Development has confirmed that he will be reviewing their policy on the use of carbon monoxide detectors.”
