The issue was due to be examined at Tuesday night’s meeting of the MEA Policy and Resources Committee.

In a report, members were informed that the Charging for Police Services policy was approved by PSNI on March 23 this year and issued on May 5.

The report also aimed to explore the impact of the policy for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council and the communities it serves.

A certain charge would be levied to provide police services “over and above core policy, at the request of a person or organisation”.

This could include commercial, non-commercial and sporting events, with a scoring process to determine whether full, partial or no charge should be made in some instances.

However, events reflecting constitutional rights or processes, such as parades or legal protests, would be seen as part of core policing and no charge would be made for any such event.

Special police services will be charged at a rate to reflect the full economic costs of the services provided.

The calculation includes all properly attributed costs, including contributions to administrative and general overheads.

The policy is scheduled for review from 1 year from issue.
