It is understood the station has been left without any civilian staff since last Thursday, and that it was hit and miss as to whether members of the public could reach an officer.

Speaking for the PSNI, Inspector Daniel Walsh, said: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, a temporary arrangement has been in place since Thursday, November 29, to provide cover for the enquiry office at Cookstown Police Station.

“The normal opening times of 8am-8pm Monday-Saturday and 9am-5.30pm on Sunday are continuing at this time with visitors to the station being advised of any changes to service and being made aware of alternative options available to them, if necessary.

“We are working to resolve the issue and normal operations are due to resume from 8am on Wednesday, December 7.”
