No decision on DVA jobs Council told

A COLERAINE councillor has said that he has been assured that no decision has been made on the future of the DVA department at County Hall.

Plans are in place to transfer jobs to Swansea as part of centralisation moves, putting almost 300 local jobs under threat.

DUP councillor Adrian McQuillan told last Tuesday night’s Council meeting that he had received correspondence from Under Secretary of State for Transport, MP Stephen Hammond saying that as yet no decision has been made.

The councillor, who is also an MLA for East Londonderry, told the meeting that he had written to Mr Hammond about the proposed centralisation of the department.

In the letter McQuillan outlined the effect the job losses would have on the local economy.

Councillor McQuillan told the meeting that the issue has also been raised with Prime Minister David Cameron by First Minister, Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness.

“No news is indeed good news, “ said councillor McQuillan.

Coleraine Borough Council Chief Executive, Roger Wilson told the meeting that he had also recived a letter from Minister, Alex Attwood offering the same assurance.

Councillor McQuillan added: “There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes. This issue has not been forgotten about.”
