LONDONDERRY’S annual gay pride parade failed in its application for funding from Derry City Council this year, it’s been revealed.

Culture Minister Caraál Ní Chuilín made the revelation in response to an Assembly Question.

SDLP MLA Colum Eastwood asked her how much she had allocated to the Foyle Pride Festival 2012.

She replied: “My Department’s funding for Community Festivals is disbursed through local councils.

“Foyle Pride Festival 2012 applied to Derry City Council for funding however it was unsuccessful.

“The total allocation for Derry City Council this year is £60k and the four top scoring applications were each awarded £15k thus exhausting the budget.”

She suggested Foyle Pride contact the Arts Council in order to apply for funding.

“My Department’s funding for the Arts is disbursed through the Arts Council. I would encourage the organisation to contact the Arts Council to explore further funding opportunities,” she stated.
