No games on Sunday welcomed

THE decision by the Northern Cricket Union to reject proposals that would have forced clubs to play matches on Sunday has been welcomed by the area’s MP.

The DUP’s David Simpson said: “I know that quite a number of people were concerned at the prospect of being forced to end a long standing practice of not playing Sunday matches.

“I want to welcome the flexibility and sensitivity shown on this issue at the NCU AGM that will allow for clubs to refrain from this.”

He continued: “This very welcome decision shows that where there is good will a way can be found through potentially difficult situations and I want to commend everyone involved for the way in which they have approached this matter.

“I know that this decision will be welcomed by very many people.”
